The Chiltern Choir
Joining the Choir
Would you enjoy singing with a friendly group of like-minded people who enjoy making good music together?
- Must I be able to read music?
-
Not essential, although an ability to read music is a definite plus.
- Do you audition?
-
If, after you've attended a couple of rehearsals, you decide to join the choir, you'll be invited to sing a short piece of your choice for the musical director. This informal voice test is just to check that you can sing acceptably well (in tune and in time; virtuoso performances not required!), and to ensure that you're assigned to the right part in the choir.
- When and where are rehearsals?
-
We rehearse Tuesday evenings, 19:50–22:00, during school term, at the Hillside Centre, Chorleywood (Hillside Road, no more than a 10-minute walk from Chorleywood station).
- I may have to skip some rehearsals.
-
That's okay (of course!), although if you have to miss several rehearsals for a particular concert (especially rehearsals immediately before the concert), then the musical director may ask you to stand down from that performance.
- What does it cost?
-
Like all amateur choirs, we have to raise a subscription to cover the costs of our rehearsal and performance venues, musical director, professional accompanists, etc. The current rate is £180 per annum, inclusive of music scores and workshops.
